This dress is the epitome of gothic whimsy. The organic cotton/hemp stretch interlock body has cathedral like seams and a close hugging fit. The neckline has dozens of hand cut, individually added pieces of gathered fabric, with even more layered on the sleeves for an extra frayed look. The witchy sleeves are made from linen knit and add even more desheveled drama. Multi layered skirt mad from Linen knit and organic cotton/hemp jersey.
Hand dyed a rich, complex purple.
Size Small/ Medium
Sad origin story below (CW death)
This was the last piece dyed of the day. It was at the end of a beautiful day, the sun had disappeared and I was getting quite tired, a little fussy, and very ready to be done and go inside. However, I kept spiraling about the color: Had I worked it enough? Will people like it? did I add chemical x at the right time to get it exactly how I wanted? If I stop will it not be right? etc. Then, there was a strange rustling of leaves behind me. I looked over and saw the sweetest little rat emerge from the bushes looking at right at me and terrified but without the will to run away. She appeared to have a large wound on her side and was moving strangely in such a way that I could tell she didn't have a lot of time left. I know it's the circle of life and all that, but my heart couldn't help filling with sadness for this gentle little creature. Before she came to visit I had and been stressing disproportionally about whether what I was doing was good enough, but suddenly seeing this little being suffering in the last few hours of its life whipped things into perspective. As she slowly lumbered off, I realized how good I had it in the grand scheme of things and that life is a gift. The dress was going to be just fine, in fact it was going to be beautiful. Life is too short to waste energy on worrying about being enough. I wished the rat a peaceful last day on earth and transition to her little rodent afterlife, tucked the dress into it's dye bath and went inside with a renewed appreciation for the safety of home and the preciousness of the time we have. This piece is dedicated the Little Rat.
